Lisa and John met in January of 1992. Lisa was working in the commercial photography industry and John was working in home repair and as a boiler repairman…but was always since 9th grade a camera/photography enthusiast.
They got engaged at the Grand Canyon in March of 1992, married September 4th, 1993. Moved shortly after their wedding from Prairie Village to their current home at Johnson Drive and I-35.
In 1995 Lisa opened up her first picture framing studio in Mission Kansas. In October of 1998 it was washed away in the flood. Lisa and John then opened Phoenix Gallery and Frame in Westport in December of 1998. In April of 2000, they then moved the Art/Framing business to the new 600 square foot addition they built on their house to run the business from home.
In 2001, they then converted the frame shop into a photography studio and opened Phoenix Photography where they began shooting portraits, children, and weddings…and lived happily ever after.
Today they are busy shooting about 35 weddings a year, have commercial clients like Shawnee Mission hospital, Photograph many graduating seniors, and have many portrait clients who visit their studio yearly – while running a couple of other businesses of their own – SeeYourPhotos.net, Print Your Photos Online.com, and Tie The Knot Kansas City Style – along with their E-newsletter, Photo Imaging News.net.
There are two wonderful people who work with Lisa and John helping them out at the studio, Jackie and Roberta. Jackie has been extremely helpful over the years and many people say they came in because of her – she is also the voice of Phoenix Photography and SeeYourPhotos.net. Jackie and Thom have become family – since we met them, we have had their children as test subjects in the studio and with no children of their own, have had to opportunity to enjoy them and watch them grow. Addison, Sam and Ryan are just wonderful children. Roberta is our new part-time studio assistant and has become great to work with. We met her family this year at the studio’s holiday shoot.
Lisa and John do all the photography shooting together, at all the weddings and events and portraits worked thru Phoenix Photography.
The photos below are pictures of their family, Joe – the peach faced love bird, Sam – the black mask love bird, and Monte Carlo, the bunny. They live in their own bedroom and have quit the life. Sometimes they even come down to see the children in the studio, always a thrill for everyone.
